UAE grants extension in $2 bn loan repayment to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to roll-over the $2 billion deposit by the Abu Dhabi Fund to Pakistan, with assurance that the Emirate was committed to extend every possible support to Pakistan.
The UAE had provided a $2 billion loan deposit in January and February 2020 which have now matured. The announcement was made by UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi on Monday night.

Jaishankar arrives in Abu Dhabi; UAE counterpart met Sheikh Abdullah

ABU DHABI: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, arrived here on Sunday, met his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral economic cooperation and issues of mutual and regional interest.
Jaishankar tweeted, “Look forward to meeting FM @ABZayed. Look forward to our discussion.”
Interestingly, Jaishankar’s visit is in the midst of media reports of his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s visit to the United Arab Emirates that the Gulf emirate is holding back channel talks to resume talks between the two neighbors is.
