Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi welcomed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday for delegation-level talks on a number of important issues from enhancing bilateral cooperation to the Afghan peace process. Building multi-dimensional relations with Russia is a key priority for Pakistan and we believe a strong relationship contributes to regional stability and global security, Qureshi said in a statement after his meeting with Lavrov.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistanâs Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday held wide-ranging talks here during which they reviewed their bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, security, including counter-terrorism and defence.
Lavrov, the first Russian foreign minister to visit Pakistan since 2012, was welcomed by Qureshi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lavrov planted a sapling in the premises of the ministry and then went inside the building for a joint photo session, followed by the delegation-level talks.

Russia’s foreign minister on Wednesday said Moscow and Islamabad would boost ties in the fight against terrorism, with Russia providing unspecified military equipment to Pakistan and the two holding more joint exercises at sea and in the mountains.
Sergey Lavrov’s two-day trip to Pakistan is the first visit by a Russian foreign minister in nine years, part of a warming in once frosty relations. It comes as Moscow seeks to increase its stature in the region, particularly in Afghanistan, where it has sought to inject itself as a key player in accelerated efforts to find a peaceful end to decades of war.

Islamabad, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) Russia has reaffirmed on Wednesday its commitment to promote bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in several fields, including economy, trade and defense, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in Islamabad.
Pakistan s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi received his Russian counterpart and his accompanying delegation at the Islamabad airport, ARY News informed.
Lavrov arrived in Pakistan -from India- on a two-day official visit as part of a tour of several countries.
This is the first visit of a Russian foreign minister to Pakistan in nine years.
