US 2 project from IM to Norway | News, Sports, Jobs

May 7, 2021 Motorists and pedestrians will need to take heed — and show some patience — after the resurfacing project on U.S. 2 from Iron Mountain west to Norway started this week. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction using lane closures and traffic shifts. The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $2.8 million to resurface about 8 miles of the highway from Michigan Avenue in Iron Mountain to west of Fifth Avenue in Norway. The project will result in a smoother driving surface and increased safety, the agency said. Here, Bacco Construction flagger Sonya Gilbertsen keeps an eye on traffic as equipment operators finish cleaning up leftover debris from the layer of asphalt removed on U.S. 2 in Norway. The estimated completion date for the project is July 2022.

It will go right through Norway and continue through Quinnesec, to Michigan Avenue in the City of Iron Mountain,” said Steve Cadeau, a construction engineer with the Michigan Department of Transportation. He said MDOT is investing about $2.8 million to resurface the road, through its Non-Freeway Resurfacing Project Program. He says the goal of this project is to provide a smoother driving surface and increased safety.
