Baxter Regional issues local COVID-19 update

Baxter Regional Medical Center (BRMC) has issued its weekly update on the COVID-19 pandemic in the Twin Lakes Area.There have been 2,009 cases in Baxter County as of Tuesday evening, with 181 currently active. Baxter County has seen 71 total deaths, an increase of five since Sunday. The BRMC system has conducted 14,014 tests for COVID-19, with 1,120 positive cases detected. The hospital is currently treating 21 COVID patients who are hospitalized, four of which are in the intensive care unit, and two who are on ventilators. BRMC has now seen 306 patients who have been admitted with COVID-19 since the pandemic began. There are 19 employees who actively have COVID-19 and are in isolation at their homes. A total of 248 employees have tested positive thus far.

Freezing precipitation possible late Wednesday night

Another possibility of freezing precipitation is expected to begin late Wednesday night for the Twin Lakes Area. Rain will be seen throughout the day, but sleet and freezing rain could be mixed in after midnight. According to Meteorologist Joe Goudsward from the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock, most of the freezing precipitation is expected in the higher elevations of the Ozarks. Listen:

Man who allegedly fought MHPD officer appears in court

Photo: Luke Alexander Dennis A man alleged to have fought with a Mountain Home police officer trying to arrest him appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court earlier this month. Thirty-three-year-old Luke Alexander Dennis of Mountain Home entered a not guilty plea to charges of resisting arrest, second-degree battery, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated and refusal to take tests to determine his blood/alcohol level. The officer reported pulling up behind a pickup truck about 11 a.m. on Dec. 1. The truck’s license plate expired in 2016. After the office activated his emergency lights, the vehicle, which was driven by Dennis, pulled into a parking lot.
