Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Names New Administrators

By Janene Scully, Noozhawk North County Editor | @JaneneScully June 13, 2021 | 7:30 p.m. During last week’s Board of Trustees meeting, district leaders also named two new principals and an assortment of assistant principals to fill vacancies. Righetti High School Principal Karen Rotondi is the district’s new director of teaching and learning, and Delta High School Principal Sal Reynoso is the new director of certificated human resources. Mike Stockton, assistant prinicipal at Pioneer Valley High School, will become the new director of instructional technology. The trio will start the new district-level jobs July 1. Meanwhile, Ted Lyon, currently an assistant principal at Righetti, will be the new RHS principal while Nate Maas, director of student services at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, will take over as the new Delta High principal.

Public Hearing Notice: School district holding second hearing on trustee area scenarios

RE: Converting Board of Education elections from “At Large” to a “By-Trustee area system)  The public hearing on Trustee Area Scenarios (Second Hearing) of the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District will be held at the Paso Robles District Office Board Room, located at 800 Niblick Rd., Paso Robles on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 6:00 pm.  The public is invited to participate and provide public comment. For live public comment dial (805) 608-4230 just before this agenda item is discussed or provide 450 words or less, written comments to info@pasoschools.org. School district accepting names for citizen advisory committee

Deadline to apply is June 1 –The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is currently accepting names of Paso Robles community members interested in serving a five-year term reviewing facility name suggestions and submitting recommendations to the Board of Trustees. Specifically, the district is looking for representatives from community-based organizations, the Paso Robles historical community, and Paso Robles PTA/PTOs. These representatives will be joined by previous lifetime members of this committee, representatives from the district’s bargaining units, non-represented employees, and PRHS Associated Student Body member(s). From recommendations, the Board of Trustees shall name district schools and other district-owned or leased buildings, grounds, and facilities in recognition of former employees and individuals who have made contributions to the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District community. The board encourages community participation.

School district seeking input regarding election conversion

Under new system, residents will vote for a candidate residing in their trustee area –Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is inviting community members to provide input into plans for converting Board of Education elections from an at-large to a by-trustee-area system. Under the current at-large system, all registered voters may vote for any board candidate within school district boundaries. Under the new system, residents will vote for a single candidate residing in their newly drawn trustee area. The first election under the new system would be in Nov. 2022. The Board of Education approved the plan to convert to by-trustee area elections on February 26, 2019, in compliance with the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA). The mapping will be led by a demographer and legal team.
