Dutch police have arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of stealing two paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Frans Hals from museums in the Netherlands last year.
The man was held at his home in the central town of Baarn over the thefts of Van Gogh s Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring and Hals s Two Laughing Boys , police said in a statement. For months, intensive investigations into the robbery of both paintings were conducted under the leadership of the public prosecution service, the Dutch police statement said.

Dutch police arrested a 58-year-old man on Tuesday on suspicion of stealing paintings by Vincent Van Gogh and Frans Hals from museums in the Netherlands last year.
Police said the man was held at his home in the central town of Baarn on suspicion of stealing Van Gogh s 1884 painting Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring from the Singer Laren Museum near Amsterdam where it was on loan from the Groninger Museum in March 2020; and Two Laughing Boys with a Mug of Beer, painted by Hals in 1626, from the Museum Hofje Van Aerden in Leerdam in August of last year.

Dutch police have arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of stealing paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Frans Hals with an estimated value of £18m during night-time raids on museums in the Netherlands last year.
The unnamed man was arrested on Tuesday morning at his home in the central town of Baarn over the thefts of Van Goghâs The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring and Halsâs Two Laughing Boys.
Police said that despite a search of the manâs home they had not recovered either of the paintings. The Van Gogh is valued at up to £5m while the Hals masterpiece would be expected to fetch £13.4m at auction.

Dutch police have arrested a suspect in two separate thefts of paintings by Dutch masters Vincent Van Gogh and Frans Hals from museums that were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This morning my colleagues arrested a 58-year-old man in Baarn and we suspect him of stealing two paintings by Frans Hals and Van Gogh, police spokeswoman Maren Wonder said in a video statement released on Twitter. No further details were given about the suspect.
She added that the paintings have not been recovered and appealed to the public to come forward with any information about the whereabouts of the works.

(AFP) Dutch police arrested a 58-year-old man Tuesday on suspicion of stealing two paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Frans Hals from small museums, saying it brought them closer to recovering both masterworks.
The man was held at his home in the central town of Baarn over last year’s thefts of van Gogh’s 1884 work “Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring”, and 17th century painter Hals’s “Two Laughing Boys”.
