Suspect arrested after burglaries

The Amarillo Police Department said a man was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on several charges after a pair of Friday morning burglaries.  Per a Friday APD media release, at 1:23 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to an alarm call at a business in the 1600 block of east I-40, noting the front glass of the business had been broken out and several items had been taken.  According to the media release, video at the business showed a white man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, with white writing on the back, committing the crime and fleeing before officers arrived.

Around 2:57 a.m., officers were called to another business near Southwest 6th Avenue and South Lipscomb Street.

DA: Ivy died from drug overdose

DA: Ivy died from drug overdose The 47th District Attorney said on Wednesday the results of an investigation into the death of Billy Ivy Jr. determined he died from a drug overdose at the Potter County Detention Center in September, and there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.  According to 47th District Attorney Randall Sims, Ivy faced a series of charges, including tampering with a witness, attempted capital murder while remuneration (murder for hire), capital murder while remuneration and capital murder by terror threat/other felony. Today the 47th District Attorney presented a case to the Grand Jury regarding the death that happened Sept. 26, 2020, Sims said during a Wednesday media briefing.  The deceased is Billy Ivy Jr. The sheriff got the Texas Rangers to do the investigation and that investigation is now complete on receipt of the toxicology reports.
