THE BUZZ HEAT’S ON XAVIER: Xavier Becerra’s record as California’s top cop is under intense scrutiny this week, as Republicans intensify their drive to squelch his nomination to be the Biden administration’s Health and Human Services Secretary.
What’s driving the move: Republicans who had a role in successfully tabling the nomination of Neera Tanden to head the Office of Management and Budget have turned to Becerrra as the next big target. And on Wednesday, the Senate Finance Committee split evenly along party lines on whether to advance Becerra’s nomination to the full Senate floor, requiring the intervention of the Senate majority leader and underscoring the California AG’s precarious position, as POLITICO’s Alice Miranda Ollstein reported.
