The struggle for power in Haiti after the assassination of the countryâs president has spilled onto K Street, where rival Haitian politicians, business leaders and interest groups are turning to lobbyists to wage an expensive and escalating proxy battle for influence with the United States.

President Joe Biden invited a lobbying firm executive with ties to Haiti who has not formally worked on Cuba issues for decades to join Cuban celebrities and businesspeople for a Zoom call on protests in the communist nation Tuesday.
After a week of inaction following nationwide anti-government protests in Cuba, the Biden Administration finally acted by holding a “listening session” Zoom call featuring Gloria and Emilio Estefan, actor Andy Garcia, and several other prominent Cuban-Americans.
The virtual meeting Tuesday included former Florida Rep. Joe Garcia (D), a co-chair for a lobbying firm that represents the office of the presidency of Haiti,

The NSO Group’s spyware may have been used to surveil high-level politicians throughout the world, including more than a dozen world leaders, recent reports show.
For years, the Israeli surveillance firm has been accused of selling its spyware to corrupt governments, thus allowing them to spy on political dissidents, human rights lawyers, and journalists. These allegations have gained global attention in recent days, however, with the launch of “The Pegasus Project,” an investigation by an international consortium of journalists and researchers into the global proliferation of the firm’s commercial malware.
