Dr Armah donates to Kwesimintsim police
The Member of Parliament-elect for Kwesimintsim Constituency, Dr Prince Hamid Armah, has donated two motorbikes and 30 bags of cement to the Kwesimintsim Police Command.
The bags of cement are to support the refurbishment of the building housing the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit attached to the Kwesimintsim Police Command.
The donation follows an earlier donation of three motorbikes and money to support the operations of the police in Kwesimintsim.
Both donations were made through the Dr Prince Hamid Armah Foundation, the charitable organisation set up to pursue his vision of providing education and skills, entrepreneurial support and social support interventions in Kwesimintsim and beyond.
WISE calls for renewed efforts to eradicate violence against women
The Women’s Initiative for Self-Empowerment (WISE), a non-profit organization, on Friday called for renewed efforts and vigorous commitment to the eradication of violence against women and girls.
According to WISE, statistics from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSU) indicated that one out of every three women went through abuse hence the need to sensitize people on what to do in fighting the menace.
Madam Adwoa Bame, Executive Director of WISE underscored the need to have a community-based-approach towards the fight, saying, members within the community should take charge, should understand the system and therefore help each other to eradicate violence against women.
Gregory Andrews, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana
Gregory Andrews, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana has charged men to stand-up against all forms of violence against females.
“Domestic Violence is an issue that affects all communities and countries including Australia. Men have a responsibility to stand up against it and say no,” he said.
Mr Andrews said real and strong men were those who stand against violence against females, during the launch of the Pearl Safe Haven Home at the High Commission in Accra.
Pearl Safe Haven is an emergency shelter for survivors of gender-based violence.
He said ending violence against women and girls required effective response, a balance between services and responses, access to justice and prevention-focused on social changing norms.
Safe-Child Advocacy explores impact of children protection policy in Ghana

Safe-Child Advocacy, a humanitarian organisation of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi has organised a virtual Conference aimed at advocating for the prevention of child abuse, and improve the quality life, safety, well-being of children.
The November 30 virtual Conference held on November 30 was on the topic “Situation of Ghanaian children 30 years after the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Child Rights in Africa, a reality or a rhetorical?”
Hosted by Sr. Olivia Umoh, the Director of Safe-Child Advocacy, the speakers of the conference explored the impact of child protection policies in Ghana and the need to advocate for the rights of children in the West African country.
