PCW appeals for safe spaces for women

(Keith Bacongco / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) In a statement on Thursday, April 8, PCW pointed out that all forms of sexual harassment in the employment, education or training environment are unlawful under Republic Act (RA) 7877 or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act.  “Violence against women, sexual harassment, and all other forms of gender-based violence are manifestations of unequal power relations between women and men, where the latter are seen as superior,” it said. “It is a social phenomenon where men misuse and abuse power to subjugate women and assert male privilege,” it added. The PCW urged the public to help in ending gender-based violence, treat women as humans with equal rights, and help build a community where gender-based violence including sexual harassment is never justified.
