EPA: Teton County bible college violated Safe Drinking Water Act

A West Bank Bible college has been working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to come back into good standing after violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The federal regulatory agency put Jackson Hole Bible College President Don Landis on notice last summer, faulting him for failing to send required E. coli monitoring reports, a noncompliant well cap and for failing to notify the public of those violations. In late October the agency included the college in a news release detailing regulatory actions taken to enforce drinking water quality across Wyoming and Indian Country within EPA’s Region 8.

188th Wing, Fort Chaffee missions supported by omnibus bill

Times Record Staff The 188th Wing and Fort Chaffee are set to receive a boost in funding to support missions in Fort Smith. U.S. Sen. John Boozman, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) subcommittee, announced Tuesday that provisions in an omnibus bill will stand to deliver benefits to Fort Smith s military bases. Fort Chaffee will receive $15 million for the construction of the Arkansas National Guard Readiness Training Center, which will provide greater support for training exercises by Arkansas guardsmen. The Razorback Range at Fort Chaffee will receive $8 million in funding under the Air Force Training section. The Razorback Range, an aircraft bombing and targeting range at Fort Chaffee, was transferred to the Arkansas Army National Guard from the 188th Wing in 2017.

Tidewater project recognized for excellence and innovation

December 24, 2020 Tidewater Utilities Inc., a provider of regulated water services, has earned recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Aquarius program for commendable execution of a project that finances the construction and rehabilitation of critical drinking water infrastructure. The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Aquarius Program is a federal-state partnership dedicated to protecting America’s public health, which provides loans and grants for eligible water systems. To be eligible for recognition, the DWSRF project needed to demonstrate Safe Drinking Water Act compliance, financial integrity and public health benefits. Receiving Honorable Mention, Tidewater was among 25 other water utilities nationwide recognized for demonstrating excellence in system partnerships, innovative financing, community engagement, problem solving and public health protection.

Wednesday, December 23, 2020 Legislation Highlights This bi-partisan effort to reduce marine plastics and encourage recycling is supported by industry groups, including the American Chemistry Council and the Solid Waste Association of North America. Federal funding for research is combined with private funding of a “Genius Prize” and other innovation incentives. The Act requires development of federal definitions and testing/measuring for microfibers and microplastics that can impact industries including textiles, petrochemicals, consumer goods, and more.   A multi-pronged approach is taken to address pollution from derelict fishing gear. Expect increased U.S. participation in international negotiations related to plastics pollution. The Act will strengthen domestic infrastructure to prevent the creation of new marine debris.
