Government of Canada Announces Funding for New COVID-19 Safe Voluntary Isolation Sites in Saskatchewan

Share this article Share this article OTTAWA, ON, April 16, 2021 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is working with all partners to protect the health and safety of Canadians and to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the variants of concern in Canada. Self-isolation is one of the most effective ways to help stop the spread of COVID-19. However, for some Canadians, crowded housing conditions and restrictive costs can make it unsafe or impossible to self-isolate, increasing the risk of community transmission. Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, announced funding for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency to operate a number of safe, voluntary isolation sites across Saskatchewan.

Today, Terry Sheehan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, announced funding to operate a safe voluntary isolation site in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District, Ontario. These sites help those who have COVID-19, or have been exposed to it, access safe isolation accommodations to keep themselves and their community safe.

City threatens closure of foreign worker isolation centre over funding gap

Article content Citing a $2-million-plus funding gap the City of Windsor can’t afford, Mayor Drew Dilkens is expressing frustration and threatening to close the COVID isolation and recovery centre that Windsor runs for temporary foreign workers. The city took on the task of taking care of COVID-infected workers from agricultural operations in Kingsville and Leamington in November. The quarantine facility was established at a city motel, with city staff on-site daily, the Canadian Red Cross providing the care for infected workers and Public Safety Canada footing the bill from the Red Cross.
