Read / Add Comments A 20-year-old man has been charged for his participation in a string of armed home invasion and gas station robberies. Orange County resident Tishaawn Woods, of Newburgh, was apprehended in Orange, New Jersey, on Thursday, April 8, and charged with the crimes that took place in around the city of Newburgh, said Audrey Strauss, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. According to the allegations in the complaint in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 17, Woods and an accomplice armed with handguns, burst inside an apartment in Newburgh, where they robbed and shot the apartment’s occupant, inflicting life-threatening injuries.

(WDAM) - Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell announced his campaign for U.S. Congress in Mississippi’s Fourth Congressional District Wednesday. The seat is currently held by Rep. Steven Palazzo, who told WLOX that he plans to run for re-election in 2022. Palazzo is currently facing an investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics. Ezell is a Republican who has served as Jackson County Sheriff since 2014 when he was first elected in a special election. He was re-elected to the position in 2015 and 2019. Ezell has 40 years of service in law enforcement, including working in the Pascagoula Police Department and serving as chief of police for the Ocean Springs Police Department.

Drug dealer who fled Pueblo police pleads guilty to possession, to face lengthy stay in prison

DENVER  An admitted drug dealer who tried to flee from Pueblo police with $60,000 of methamphetamine now is facing a long term in federal prison. James Anthony Lovato pleaded guilty Monday to possessing the drug with the intent of distributing it as a dealer. He entered the plea in Denver at the U.S. District Court for Colorado.  Judge R. Brooke Jackson said sentencing guidelines recommend a prison term of more than 21 years. A court filing states that Lovato, 36, is a career offender as defined by federal law who was convicted in Pueblo District Court in 2003 of attempted robbery and in 2014 of menacing.

Southern Colorado Safe Streets Task Force seeks 2 suspects in Pueblo

The Pueblo Chieftain The Southern Colorado Safe Streets Task Force is seeking two suspects in Pueblo. The Pueblo Police Department issued its weekly Safe Streets round-up Friday, and Joseph Calderon and Derec Duran were identified as suspects being sought by the task force. Calderon, 23, is wanted for a no-bond warrant for a parole violation, which includes assault. Duran, 19, has a no-bond warrant for robbery. Pueblo man sentenced to 34 months in prison for 2018 gun crime

DENVER A Pueblo man who was sentenced Thursday to 34 months in federal prison said his history of crime has to do with (his) drug addiction and alcohol abuse. Kenneth Lawrence Baca was sentenced in Denver at the U.S. District Court for Colorado for having a gun after being convicted of a felony. Court records show he had at least three felony convictions in Pueblo District Court in 2000, 2005 and 2009. The crimes were second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and identify theft. Police caught Baca, 41, in 2018 with a loaded .38 caliber handgun in a car parked in the 1100 block of South Prairie Avenue. That was the basis of the case for Thursday s sentencing by Judge William J. Martinez.
