ADRIAN THRILLS: Southern rockers Kings of Leon are back to their best

Rating: Verdict: Hit and miss return When they hit the commercial jackpot with their fourth album Only By The Night in 2008, Kings Of Leon looked set to join rock s big league. The singles Sex On Fire and Use Somebody were everywhere, and the world s stadiums beckoned for a family quartet who had broken through five years earlier by mixing Southern country with the lean guitars of a garage band. But superstardom eluded the three Followill brothers, sons of a Pentecostal minister, and their guitarist cousin Matthew. The excesses of touring and inter-band squabbles took a toll, and a run of indifferent albums followed.

Extra grant money could help Spokane Police tackle backlog of sexual assault kits

KXLY March 4, 2021 9:40 PM Kaitlin Knapp Updated: SPOKANE, Wash. The Spokane Police Department is hoping for more money from a grant to investigate old sexual assault cases. More than 1,500 kits sat on a shelf untested prior to 2015. In 2015, Washington passed a law that would require all old, unsubmitted sexual assault kits to be tested. As of March 2021, Spokane Police has submitted 711 kits for testing, and more than 90 tests have been linked back to someone’s DNA in a national criminal database. The biggest issue is manpower. “If we continue this grant, it leaves the sergeant in this position to review these cases,” said Officer John O’Brien with Spokane Police. “That doesn’t take away from each sexual assault detective’s case load that he’s actively working.”

But what should you do if you find yourself near that kind of situation? Three different safety experts all say the same thing: run. “Distance is your friend,” Gary Sigrist, Jr., Safeguard Risk Solutions, “if you hear gunfire, you need to get as far away from that area as you can, distance is always your friend.” “They should be finding an exit, they should be running, they should be getting out,” said Dustin Randall, Safe Passage Consulting.
