Caravan Passes Through Streets Of Pasadena In Push To Reopen Small Businesses Syndicated Local – CBS Los Angeles
PASADENA (CBSLA) A caravan passed through the streets of Pasadena pushing for the reopening of small businesses on Saturday.
The caravan started along Aroyo Boulevard and made its way down Colorado. Organizers say it is not fair that small businesses are required to close, while big businesses stay open.
“The businessman that has his whole lifesavings involved … that are working every day to survive are now out of business,” Gregg Smith, a restaurant owner, said.
Many business owners say they have spent thousands in order to create safe, outdoor spaces.
Meyerland Middle School teacher Rachel Nash participated.
“I think it’s time for the public to start listening to teachers, Nash said. Instead of people who don’t really know anything about education.”
Houston ISD colleague Rachel Bohenick called out of work, too. They said they have similar experiences in the classroom. About 15 years, Nash said 16 years this year,” Bohenick said.
The teachers, who share a first name, also share concerns about COVID-19-related issues in the classroom.
Those include changing guidelines regarding campus closures to in-person STAAR testing and new policies regarding sick day usage when on-campus cases are detected.

‘We Are Not The Cause Of These Spikes’: Business Owners Push Back Against Pandemic Blame Syndicated Local – CBS Los Angeles
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA) Business owners across the Southland want to make their voices heard, and spread the message that they don’t believe they are to blame for the alarming increase in coronavirus cases.
A 4.5-mile Save Small Businesses march was held on Saturday from West Hollywood to Beverly Hills.
“We are not the cause of these spikes!” one event attendee said.
The march was led by the California Coalition for Safe Reopening and several Chambers of Commerce, was held on Saturday to bring attention to their concerns.
A few dozen protesters rallied outside Long Beach City Hall on Saturday, Dec. 12, in opposition to Californiaâs regional stay-at-home order issued last weekend in response to the worsening pandemic.
Demonstrators carried flags and posters that read âreopen our schoolsâ and âreopen our businesses.â The protest was organized by Long Beach resident Eric Christopher, who said he operates a few businesses around the region and believes that the restrictions are doing more harm than good.
Similar protests were planned around Southern California this weekend â including a march staged by California Coalition for Safe Reopening, which expected large throngs on Hollywood Boulevard â calling on leaders to allow struggling restaurants and other businesses to welcome back more customers.
