Colombia’s opposition pressed charges against President Ivan Duque, his defense minister and top security officials before the International Criminal Court.
In a video message, opposition Senator Ivan Cepeda said that Duque, Defense Minister Diego Molano, General Jorge Luis Vargas of the National Police and General Jorge Luis Vargas of the National were facing charges for “the alleged carrying out of crimes against humanity.”

According to Cepeda, the government and commanders of the security forces allegedly committed the crimes against participants in anti-government protests that began on April 28.

Colombia’s former President Alvaro Uribe lost his wits on Thursday over American pressure to investigate alleged state crimes and terrorism to quell anti-government protests, and for a good reason.
In a flurry of video messages, Uribe denied the security forces were involved in the killing and forced disappearance of hundreds of citizens during anti-government protests of the past few weeks.
The former president said these allegation were invented by allies of created demobilized guerrilla group FARC and active “extremist groups.”
The old parallel diplomacy of the FARC and the extremist groups with which it coincides has created abroad the false image that here in this great democracy there is official violence.

Colombia’s security forces apparently entered panic mode and the government of President Ivan Duque all but collapsed after the US Congress reiterated threats to cut military funds.
The panic was most evident on the National Army’s twitter page, which suddenly began publishing in Spanglish about mysterious “spirit of body and military training.”
The prosecution and the police additionally announced investigations into reports on widespread human rights violations against anti-government protesters.
This violence that surged after protests began on April 28 suddenly stopped on Wednesday when police apparently retreated from the streets in the major cities.

The “strike” was called by the National Strike Committee, which is composed of the main trade union confederations and farmers associations, after it suspended talks with the government of far-right President Ivan Duque during the first day of the so-called “National Dialogue” on Monday.
Since 2019, the unions and the government have repeatedly employed a combination of talks with intermittent calls for “National Strikes,” during which the unions fail to mobilize the powerful oil, automotive and other industrial sectors, while working to dissipate popular anger.
