Hundreds of Palestinians gathered outside the illegal Evyatar outpost in the West Bank late Thursday, throwing rocks, firebombs and shooting fireworks at IDF troops at the scene, the army said.
The violent protest came on the eve of a partial evacuation of the wildcat settlement set for Friday under an agreement reached between the government at the settlers.
IDF troops responded with tear gas and rubber bullets.
The Palestinian Red Crescent reported it treated 61 people, including six hit by rubber bullets. The rest suffered from tear gas inhalation.

It s been another week of unusual quiet for Israel on its border with the Gaza Strip, as compared to the rising tension in the West Bank, for several reasons not directly related to Israel. In the very first week after the formation of the new government, a large number of incendiary balloons were launched from Gaza into Israel. The opposition was quick to claim that Hamas did so because it discerned the weakness of the decision-makers in Jerusalem. The air force struck Hamas facilities in Gaza and calm was restored.

The third week of the Bennett-Lapid government was characterized by two successful political visits abroad and one constrained compromise at home. Foreign Minister Yair Lapid reaped the fruits of the normalization agreement sown by the Netanyahu government when he inaugurated the Israeli embassy in the United Arab Emirates. President Reuven Rivlin, whose term ends next week, paid a cordial farewell visit in the United States to Joe Biden, and on that occasion reached an agreement on an invitation to visit the White House that will be sent in the near future to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. If anyone had any doubts, the sun continues to shine. The Israeli government of change is being welcomed with open arms by the international community.

In January 2020, after the indictments were filed against then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Reuven Rivlin convened a handful of his closest advisers. The third election campaign (which gave rise to the government of Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz) was in full swing. Friends, he told them, I’ve decided. I am not going to give him the mandate to form a government. My conscience doesn’t allow me to, he explained.
Not all the participants were wildly enthusiastic, to say the least.
