Israel launched more airstrikes Tuesday on the Gaza Strip, while Palestinian militants fired rockets into Israel, killing two Thai workers in a packaging plant and wounding seven more people in a continuing wave of violence that has stretched for more than a week.
Since the fighting began on May 10, more than 200 Palestinians have been killed, including at least 59 children and 35 women, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. At least 10 Israelis have been killed in the rocket attacks, including a 6-year-old child.
An Israeli attack leveled a six-story building that housed bookstores and educational centers used by the Islamic University and other colleges, leaving behind a massive mound of concrete slabs. A jumble of desks, office chairs, books and computer wires could be seen in the debris as the building’s residents searched for their belongings.

Attacks against Jews have intensified around the world in the aftermath of the renewed conflict in Gaza, with some violence resulting in physical injuries to the people targeted. Now, a video has emerged in Malaysia in which hardline Islamists have called for attacks on Israelis.
The video that circulates on social media encourages jihadis to travel to Gaza to fight against Israel, the South China Morning Post has reported. The video shows Malaysian militants hailing impending martyrdom and exhorting radical Islamists to travel for jihad. It was apparently shot in 2014, but is being recirculated in the new context, with a view to encourage radical elements to travel to Palestine for jihad.

This is not new. Every few years, large-scale violence erupts for a few days or weeks and ends with a temporary ceasefire that essentially returns the situation to the same depressing status quo: The Gaza Strip besieged and devastated and the adjacent Israeli population in constant fear of the next attack as well.
And neither side has a vision of either actual military resolution or a diplomatic solution to the impasse.
Israeli leaders know that pressing the offensive in Gaza will prolong the missile barrage on its towns and cities, including even Tel Aviv, Israel’s largest city, which in the past has not endured such ferocious rocket attacks. Hamas leaders know that the price the people of Gaza pay for their continued rocket launches is disproportionately high and rising.
