Canadian Parliament backs Halifax Security Forum s decision to honor Taiwan s president

OTTAWA Canada’s House of Commons unanimously passed a motion Wednesday in support of the Halifax International Security Forum’s decision to honor the president of Taiwan with a prestigious award.
“President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan is a well-respected international leader, female president of Taiwan and a strong global advocate for democracy,” Conservative MP Michael Chong said as he introduced the motion, which he said was created in consultation with all political parties. “She would certainly be an ideal fit for this award.”

It is nothing if not rich in irony, this latest dramatic plot twist in the ongoing “world stage” soap opera chronicling the embarrassing ups and downs of the Trudeau government’s unrequited affections for Chinese strongman Xi Jinping. Of all people, Taiwan’s heroic president, the 64-year-old feminist and liberal Tsai Ing-wen, has been forced to endure the misfortune of being dragged into the script for this week’s episode.
Of all people: President Tsai is precisely the kind of dynamic middle-power personality the Trudeau Liberals, if we were to take them at their word about what they claim to stand for, would be falling all over themselves to be seen with. Nevertheless, in the last remaining setting at which Canada can still claim some international prestige the Halifax International Security Forum (HFX), now in its 11th year Team Trudeau has beclowned itself again, and this time it’s at Tsai’s expense.

“I’ll keep saying I’m a feminist.”
Those are Justin Trudeau’s words. He said them at a United Nations summit focusing on women in March 2016.
He said he’d keep calling himself a feminist, in fact, “until it is met with a shrug.”
On Monday of this week, no one in the real world was shrugging. They were shaking their heads in disbelief.
On Monday, the Liberals aided and abetted by the separatists, no less voted to shut down a defence committee investigation of sexual misconduct at the highest level of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Liberal and Bloc Quebecois MPs voted together and they voted for a Liberal motion that effectively kills the parliamentary committee’s work.The committee had heard shocking testimony about how the Trudeau government had handled allegations of sexual harassment and abuse against women in the Canadian military.

The House of Commons unanimously adopted a motion Wednesday in support of the Halifax Security International Forum’s decision to award the prestigious John McCain prize to the president of Taiwan.
The motion, introduced by Conservative foreign affairs critic Michael Chong and created in consultation with all political parties, called on MPs to express whether they agree with the statement of the Forum’s vice president Robin Shepherd that President Tsai Ing-wen deserves the John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service.
