Just over two months into the job, Canada s new top military commander has stepped aside.
Admiral Art McDonald is being investigated by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service after unspecified allegations were levelled against him.
In a statement, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan said he takes allegations of misconduct seriously, and he will continue to take strong action on any allegation of misconduct, no matter the rank, no matter the position.
Sajjan did not reveal the details of the allegations and said he will not comment further because the investigation is ongoing.
Lt.-Gen. Wayne Eyre, who is currently the commander of the army, will step into the role of acting chief of the defence staff.
