FREDERICK, Md. (AP) A Navy medic who shot and wounded two U.S. sailors before he was killed by police on a nearby Army base was assigned to a Naval medical research center in Maryland for nearly two years and had spent time in Bremerton, according to his service record.
Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, 38, and the two men he shot were all assigned to Fort Detrick in Frederick, authorities said after Tuesday s shootings.
Woldesenbet was stationed in Bremerton at the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command between July 2015 and May 2018, according to Naval Hospital Bremerton Spokesman Douglas Stutz.
“We send our deepest condolences to all affected by this terrible act of violence and will continue to support the investigation,” Stutz said.

Frederick Police Department, in coordination with cooperating agencies investigating an active shooter incident Tuesday, is releasing the photo of subject Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, 38, of Frederick, who was shot and killed by Fort Detrick’s civilian military police after initially shooting two people in the 8400 Block of Progress Drive and then driving onto Fort Detrick.
Additionally, our agencies know the public and the media want answers regarding this incident and the subsequent investigation. We do as well. Investigations take time.
