Curbs on government procurement from China, neighbours may be eased
The government could also allow Covid-related procurements from any country without restrictions for amounts greater than Rs 200 crore. This will allow large international orders of Covid medicines and supplies.
Synopsis
The condition of pre-registration of suppliers from land-border countries has already been waived for tenders of less than Rs 200 crore, said a government official. This means that those applying for procurement tenders below this threshold won’t need prior registration or security clearance.
India could ease curbs on government procurement from countries it shares land borders with such as China for some time to boost emergency supplies as it battles the second wave of Covid-19, said people with knowledge of the matter. Vendors from such countries need prior registration and security nod before they can sell goods or services to the Indian government.
