DISA takes on DOD cloud operations -- Defense Systems

By Lauren C. Williams Jan 13, 2021 The Defense Information Systems Agency will be absorbing the Defense Department’s Cloud Computing Program Office (CCPO) by the end of January, the agency s director said. DISA will become “the implementation arm for the DOD CIO’s cloud strategy,” said Vice Adm. Nancy Norton, DISA director and commander of the Joint Force Headquarters Department of Defense Information Network. Whether that s a general-purpose cloud or a fit-for-purpose cloud, all of those offerings are available through DISA, Norton said during a virtual keynote presentation with AFCEA NOVA on Jan. 7. Control of the CCPO, which is responsible for the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure program and other cloud efforts, has been under split with DISA having administrative control and the DOD CIO having operational control.

Defense, Intelligence Agencies Made Major Moves in Cloud in 2020

Defense, Intelligence Agencies Made Major Moves in Cloud in 2020 deepadesigns/Shutterstock.com email December 24, 2020 After bid protests and litigation, some of the largest cloud contracts the government has attempted can get underway.  Despite a pandemic that forced hundreds of thousands of personnel to remote offices and an assortment of legal actions involving some of the major cloud procurements, the Pentagon and intelligence community made major moves in cloud computing adoption in 2020. However, 2020 ends much the same way it began for the Defense Department’s Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure: under litigation. With JEDI on hold for more than a year, Defense agencies have looked elsewhere for enterprise cloud computing capabilities, turning instead to existing vehicles like the Air Force’s Cloud One contract. Here’s a look at what happened with some of the Defense Department’s and intelligence community’s cloud efforts.

DISA unveils $11B IT Enclave services solicitation -- Defense Systems

By Ross Wilkers Dec 16, 2020 The Defense Information Systems Agency has put a much-anticipated potential $11.2 billion contract for broad IT and systems integration services out for industry to compete for. Bids for the Defense Enclave Services contract are due Feb. 8, 2021 as DISA intends to pick one winner sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021, the agency said Tuesday in a Beta.Sam.Gov notice. Work will take place over a four-year base period and three two-year option periods that would achieve the full ceiling amount. Defense Enclave Services is an ambitious effort by DISA to consolidate several IT support contracts across so-called “Fourth Estate” agencies outside the service branches into one vehicle. The broad idea behind DES is to put all 22 of those agencies on a single network named DoDNet, which DISA will operate for 400,000 users across 80 locations.
