Major Kathing, who established Indian administrative control over Tawang way back in 1951, will now have a memorial set up by the Arunachal Pradesh government at Tawang, land for which will be donated by the people of Tawang.
GUWAHATI: It was literally a historic valentine’s day celebration at Tawang – that of love of Tawang for Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing. Union Minister of State Kiren Rijiju said he will request the education ministry to include the story of Major Khathing in school text books.

Yesterday (7 February), tragedy hit the fragile ecological region of Uttarakhand when a glacier sheet broke away In Chamoli, triggering a massive flood in Dhauli Ganga, Rishi Ganga and Alaknanda rivers.
As waters came rushing in, the houses on the riverside were submerged. Boulders and debris carried by the water washed away the Raini power project causing a massive impact on Tapovan.
Two power projects â NTPCâs Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project and the Rishi Ganga Hydel Project â were extensively damaged with labourers getting trapped inside the tunnels.

Uttarakhand glacier burst: Two C-130J Super Hercules with three NDRF teams sent for rescue operations ANI | Updated: Feb 07, 2021 19:29 IST
New Delhi [India], February 7 (ANI): Two C-130J Super Hercules (military transport aircraft) with three companies of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 15 tonnes of other loads and equipment were sent from Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad for rescue operations following the glacier burst in Uttarakhand, said defence officials on Sunday.
The officials said that the first C-130J has landed at the Jolly Grant airport near Dehradun and the second one would be landing soon.
