Citing waste of time, Rahul walks out of parliamentary panel meet on defence   Wed, Dec 16 2020 10:22:15 PM New Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS): Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday walked out of a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence, accusing the panel of wasting time by discussing uniforms instead of Chinese aggression and national security, sources said. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi tried to raise the issue of Chinese agression and better equipping the soldiers on the borders with China in Ladakh, but he was not allowed to speak by the committee s Chairman Jual Oram. The sources claimed that the committee was discussing the uniforms of the three armed forces in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, when Rahul Gandhi tried to intervene saying that the time of the panel was being wasted by discussing uniforms instead of Chinese agression on the borders and equipping the armed forces personnel in a better way.

NEW DELHI: The country’s first Maritime Theatre Command (MTC) is set to take concrete shape by next year, with its commander-in-chief having full operational control over the western and eastern naval fleets, maritime strike fighter jets and transport aircraft, two amphibious infantry brigades and coastal patrol vessels. The MTC will be the first new “geographical” theatre command to be created as part of the biggest-ever military restructuring plan to build an integrated land-air-sea war-fighting machinery for greater combat punch in a more cost-effective manner. Top defence sources on Tuesday said the final MTC plan will be submitted to the government for approval “within the next few days”. To be headed by a senior three-star naval officer (vice admiral), the MTC will have its headquarters at the Karwar naval base in coastal Karnataka.
