The Philippines may benefit if there is a renewed emphasis on Asia by the administration of US President Joe Biden, which could help act as a counterbalance to China in the region, Defence Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana said on Friday.
“Being one of America’s allies in the Indo-Asia Pacific region, the Philippines may benefit from the Biden administration’s anticipated pivot to Asia strategy,” Mr. Lorenzana said in a pre-recorded speech shown at an online forum organized by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines.
UP ready to talk with DND to discuss accord
Published January 25, 2021 9:47pm The University of the Philippines administration on Monday said it is ready to discuss the Department of National Defense s unilateral termination of the 31-year-old UP-DND agreement with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana. “We in the University of the Philippines are pleased to hear that Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has decided to engage in a dialogue with us,” UP said in a statement. The school requested an agreement on the date and place where the dialogue will be held. “We believe that with shared openness and respect, we can settle issues between our respective institutions,” it said.

But Padilla, whose name was erroneously included in the list, said he and other UP alumni on the list were still considering charges against the military personnel responsible for the list and its posting online.
