In an interview with broadcaster Kanal 24, Cavusoglu said Turkey could not be subjected to so-called CAATSA sanctions as its acquisition predated the law, adding that the decision was an attack on Turkey s sovereign rights and would have no impact. The 2017 Countering America s Adversaries through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) legislation is meant to dissuade countries from buying military equipment from NATO foe Russia. This is not in line with international law, diplomacy, and it is a politically and legally wrong decision, Cavusoglu said, adding that the United States could have solved the dispute with common sense if it cooperated with Turkey and NATO.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday expressed strong concerns over the sanctions imposed by United States on Turkey. The Foreign Office said in a statement it opposed imposition of unilateral, coercive measure against any country in principle. The solution to all issues lies in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual understanding, said the FO. Pakistan acknowledges and appreciates Turkey’s invaluable role towards regional and international peace and stability. Reiterating strong support for the government and people of Turkey in their quest for national security, peace and prosperity , the FO said Pakistan, as always, will continue to stand by them towards the achievement of these shared goals .

Asharq Al-Awsat Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday US sanctions imposed on Ankara over its acquisition of Russian defense systems will fail in what he said was their aim of deterring Turkey s defense industry efforts. In a televised video conference address, Erdogan said the sanctions showed a hostile stance by the United States against its NATO ally, but that problems created by them would be overcome. On Monday, Washington imposed the sanctions targeting NATO member Turkey s Defense Industry Directorate (SSB), its chief Ismail Demir and three other employees over its acquisition of Russian S-400 missile defense systems.
