Reduced curfew hours bring sigh of relief to many businesses

AMMAN Business sector representatives have welcomed a government decision to reduce curfew by four hours as of the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
Last Sunday, the government announced that curfew hours would be reduced from the first day of Eid Al Fitr, as the country is witnessing a considerable drop in the number of coronavirus cases and fatalities.
Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh issued a circular based on the Defence Order to ease the measures. According to the new decision, curfew begins from 11pm to 6am for public movement and 10pm to 6am for businesses, except for establishments whose working hours are dictated otherwise by the prime minister.

AMMAN Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Monday issued a circular announcing a public holiday for all ministries and public departments from Tuesday, May 11, to Saturday, May 15, in observance of Eid Al Fitr, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Eid Al Fitr, the feast marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, is due to start on May 12 or May 13, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon of the new lunar month.
Lower House deliberates draft anti-money laundering law

AMMAN The Lower of House on Monday embarked on deliberations over the draft anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing law, which proposes stricter penalties for such crimes.
The draft is part of Jordan s international commitment to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction pursuant to the findings of the Kingdom s 2020 mutual evaluation process, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The assessment, which was approved by the National Committee for Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risks, showed that the overall anti-money laundering risk in Jordan is high , while the counter-terrorism financing threat is medium.
