Scores of Boko Haram militants were killed following multiple airstrikes launched by the Nigerian military in the Sambisa Forest located in Borno State, an official said on Tuesday.
The air interdiction conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole, was carried out after a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, revealed that the terrorists responsible for recent attacks in Borno and Adamawa States had originated from the location.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Tuesday said that the troops of the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have destroyed hideouts of insurgents and neutralized several bandits at the ‘S’ Region in the heart of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General John Eneche.
Gen Eneche stated that the Operation was carried out on Monday in the air interdiction missions being conducted by the Air Task Force in the North East on the terrorist elements in the region.

No fewer than six people have been killed and houses razed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in a community near Chibok town in Borno State.
The attack was reported to have been carried at about 5pm on the eve of Christmas.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the village in a bid to raid Piyemi, a community 10 kilometres from Chibok town in the southern part of the state.
It was learnt that the residents were forced to flee the town into the mountainous areas as the invading terrorists looted food items and burnt houses amidst sporadic shootings.

The Defence Headquarters says the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke foiled an attack on passengers traveling from Bayalsa to Jos on Markudi-Lafiya road on Thursday.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, in a statement on Friday, said that the operation was to ensure peaceful yuletide season.
Enenche said that the criminals mounted an illegal check-point on the road where they stopped the commercial vehicle to rob the commuters.
He said the troops intervened promptly with superior firepower and forced the criminals to flee in disarray.
