The move, which was disclosed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Wednesday, comes after Krishna, a longtime IBM executive, replaced Rometty as CEO in April, making him the Armonk, N.Y.-based company’s 10th chief executive. Krishna, who first joined IBM in 1990, had already been serving on the board as a director since his CEO appointment.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Arvind Krishna, acknowledged as the architect behind the 2019 acquisition of Red Hat for $32 billion, will be IBM’s next chair. The IBM board disclosed the selection of Krishna, 58, as the replacement for Ginni Rometty, whose retirement at month’s end had been previously disclosed. The news came in a securities filing Wednesday evening after the markets closed. Krishna, who joined IBM in 1990, was named CEO in April to replace Rometty.
