Maryport former marine and poppy collector dies at 82

Brian Mossom, 82, served in the Royal Marines for nine years, becoming a corporal. In Maryport, however, he was best known as the man who ran the Poppy Appeal for 14 years, receiving an award for raising more than £70,000. Remembrance Day was special to him. As well as carrying the Navy standard in the main town parade, he would also conduct a service on the quayside earlier in the day to remember those who had died at sea. After retirement from his many years at Pentagon Chemicals, he joined the voluntary Ambulance Service,travelling many miles driving people to and from hospital and other medical appointments.
