Long-term care facilities are next up to receive deliveries of the COVID-19 vaccine but there is a reluctance among some people to get the vaccine. (WCSC) - A critical care nurse became the first Trident Health employee to receive the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 Wednesday afternoon. Anthony Sims, who has worked for Trident since 2015, received his first dose of the vaccine shortly after 1 p.m. Trident and Summerville Medical Centers began inoculating their physicians and staff members with the Pfizer COVID vaccine. Trident Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lee Biggs said more than 95% of the health system’s physicians have said they will get vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available.

(WCSC) - A health care worker with 45 years of service at Roper St. Francis Healthcare became the first health care worker at that facility to receive the COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday afternoon. Earl Jackson, 69, received the vaccine to a round of applause. He said he learned earlier on Tuesday that he would be the first to receive the vaccine. He encouraged others to get the vaccine when it becomes available.

Valley Health preps to vaccinate workers

Valley Health System workers prepared Friday for the area’s first batches of a COVID-19 vaccine they expect to arrive next week pending the drug’s approval. Valley Health’s Vice President for Population Health Dr. Jeff Feit spoke by phone Friday about how the region’s hospital network plans to administer the vaccine once in hand. “Ever since March, we’ve been in the thick of things when it comes to coronavirus and we have this incredible team that is doing remarkable work to be prepared and be proactive and take care of the community,” Feit said. “Over the last four weeks, we’ve seen a real surge in the number of cases and our team is just doubling down on their work to ensure the safety of the community.
