Paris Regional Medical Center is looking forward to getting back to normal operations after a year that saw it close its doors to visitors, suspend its volunteer program, furlough some employees and scale back some of its services, all due to Covid-19. Financially, the hospital was down about 15% to 20% of its budget.
âWe did get the benefit of several million dollars in CARES ACT dollars from the government,â CEO Steve Hyde said. âThat allowed us to make budget for the year. We are behind on the bottom line, but 2020 would have been a brutal, wicked year for us if it wasnât for the supplemental dollars the government gave us.â
The Paris Junior College Board of Regents agreed to a new internet contract Monday evening after the previous provider cut the contract short.
The college was using the Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges and Universities, called NETnet, only to learn the contract wouldnât expire in 2022 as promised. Recent legislation made it inoperable, cutting service off in July, PJC President Pam Anglin told the board. Director of Information Technology Eddie Mahar had researched other alternatives and came up with LEARN, Lonestar Education and Research Network, she said. NETnet was partially funded by the Federal Communications Commission, she said, which gave the college a reduced rate.

Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-22 survey with 747 earning the designation.
The 2021-22 Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May issue of “G.I. Jobs” magazine and can be found at militaryfriendly.com.
Methodology, criteria and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community.
