Opinion | How anti-national elements infiltrated the ranks of protesting farmers
The most worrying aspect in the current farmersâ agitation in Delhi, entering its 16th day, is the infiltration of anti-national elements among the ranks of protesters. In my prime time show âAaj Ki Baatâ on Thursday night, we showed a video of few farmers from Punjab carrying placards demanding release of Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi and Elgar Parishad activists, all part of âTukde-Tukdeâ gang, presently in custody.
Â
Sharjeel Imam is a JNU activist who has been charged with sedition by at least five state governments for making communal, separatist and inflammatory speeches that led to riots in Delhi. Sharjeel Imam had mobilized anti-national elements during the Shaheen Bagh agitation and had conspired with rioters during this yearâs Delhi riots.
News headlines for December 11, 2020: India’s active COVID-19 cases dropped to 3.63 lakh. Also, intelligence reports suggested that Left-wing extremists have hijacked farmers protests.

Despite the farmer unions’ decision to keep their ongoing protest in Delhi against the farm laws “apolitical”, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) plans to use this platform to demand the release of several accused booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for allegedly having links with Naxals, on Human Rights Day, to be observed Thursday.
