In the Human Freedom Index of 2020 India was at the 111th place among 162 countries. In the 2019 index India’s rank was 94.
The HF index, published annually by American think tank Cato Institute and Fraser Institute of Canada since 2008, takes into account 76 indicators of personal, civil, and economic freedoms in ranking countries.

Election battles in the six northern districts are as adrenaline-fuelled as in other parts of the State, but no other region perhaps has as many constituencies witnessing run-of-the-mill electioneering as these.
It cannot be otherwise as political allegiance generally matters in the region. While the Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front are principal rivals, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance is feared to serve as spoilers in many places.
Barring the strongholds of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian Union Muslim League, most of the constituencies in this region are up for grabs.

The government has withdrawn its interest rate cut order, bringing relief to Indians who invest in small savings schemes.
The initial order announced cuts as sharp as 1.1% points, with some of the schemes barely beating the prevailing inflation rate.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the initial order was ‘issued by oversight’.The Indian government had declared late evening on March 31 that small savings schemes including savings deposits of up to 5-year duration, Public Provident Fund (PPF), Sukanya Samriddhi scheme, Senior Citizens Savings schemes, and more will yield much lower interest than they do now.

According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, West Bengal is the top contributor to the various National Savings Schemes offered by the government.
The state, which is currently seeing a fierce battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress in assembly elections, contributed nearly ₹90,000 crore in these savings schemes in 2017-18.

Bengaluru, Mar 17: The scandal involving former Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi got murkier on Wednesday with the Belagavi police forming a special team to probe the kidnapping claim raised by a girl s father stating that his daughter, allegedly the same girl from the video, was being harassed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr Vikram Amathe informed reporters here that based on the complaint, a special team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Market Subdivision and APMC Police Inspector, has been formed to investigate the case.
