New Delhi, Dec 19 : In a major development, India on Saturday recorded 25,152 new coronavirus cases and 347 deaths, taking the total number of infected people since January past the one crore-mark, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare s data.
The country crossed the grim milestone almost eleven months after the first case was reported on January 30 in Thrissur district of Kerala. Since then, the country has recorded 10,004,599 coronavirus cases and 14,51,36 deaths.
The number of infections had crossed the 10 lakh-mark on July 17; 20 lakh on August 7; 30 lakh on August 23; 40 lakh on September 5; 50 lakh on September 16; 60 lakh on September 28; 70 lakh on October 11; 80 lakh on October 29; and 90 lakh on November 20.

India s Covid tally 99,79,447 with 22,890 new cases

New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS): With 22,890 new Coronavirus infections and 338 deaths in the past 24 hours, India s overall tally stood at 99,79,447 on Friday, while the death toll reached 1,44,789, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
In the past 11 months, 95,20,827 people have recovered, of whom 31,087 recovered in the last 24 hours.
As of the ministry s data on Friday, there are 3,13,831 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 95.40 percent, and the fatality rate is 1.45 percent.
A total of 15,89,18,646 samples have been tested for Covid-19 till now. Of these, 11,13,406 samples were tested on Thursday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

Fever, Pain Among Minor Side Effects After Getting Covid-19 Shots, Says Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry on Friday said that the Covid-19 vaccine will be safe and effective but could show minor side effects like fever and pain at the injection site, adding that taking its shot will be voluntary.
The comment comes at a time when questions are being raised at the safety and efficacy of the vaccine being developed at a phenomenal rate. According to a recent survey, nearly 70 per cent people are hesitant to take the vaccine fearing its side-effects.
Allaying the fear, the Health Ministry said, Covid-19 vaccines will be introduced only when their safety is proven. The vaccines will be safe and effective but may have minor side effects like fever, pain, etc. at the injection site. These effects can happen in any vaccine.
