Fuel prices at record high in the country, petrol crosses Rs 92 mark in Mumbai; know rates here
Fuel prices are now at a record high in the country, prompting cries for a cut in excise duty to ease the burden on the consumers.

As fuel prices continue to hit new highs, the government is considering a cut in excise duty and the ministry of petroleum and natural gas has already written to the finance ministry, suggesting a cut in the duty. The government had raised excise duty in March when crude oil prices were down. The excise duty on petrol was raised to Rs 32.98 per litre from Rs 19.98 and diesel to Rs 31.83 per litre from Rs 15.83.

Petrol and diesel prices rose again by 22-27 paise per litre on Friday after oil marketing companies (OMCs) decided to continue the upward price revision of auto fuels, after keeping rates static for two days. Following todayâs rate revision, petrol prices were hiked by 22-25 paise a litre while the price of diesel was raised by 23-27 paise across major metro cities of the country.
Petrol in Delhi has touched all-time high and costs Rs 85.45 per litre while diesel is retailing at Rs 75.63 per litre, 25 paisa more than the previous price, as per data from Indian Oil Corporation website. Cost of petrol per litre in Mumbai is also at its record high of Rs 92.04 while a litre of diesel costs Rs 82.40.

On Thursday, the prices were Rs 85.20 per litre for petrol in Delhi. Diesel, on the other hand, is retailing at Rs 75.63 per litre, 25 paisa more than previous price.
