Today marks 14 months since the government declared the National State of Disaster. The move was in response to the outbreak of the coronavirus in March last year. It’s been extended for another month.
It will officially kick in from May 15 until June 15.
The new one-month extension was approved by Cabinet and gazetted a few days ago. The month-to-month extension to declare the National State of Disaster is done by invoking the Disaster Management Act.

JOHANNESBURG - The KwaZulu Natal government says the late AmaZulu Queen will have a provincial funeral.
Queen Regent Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu passed away last week.

The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, as well as the KZN Premier, visited the Royal Palace to pay their respects with minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma calling for peace in the family.
Prime minister to the Zulu nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has also expressed concern about the public spats within the Zulu royal family following the passing of amaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and his third wife, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu.

The national state of disaster on Covid-19 has been extended by another month to 15 May.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said the extension, which was to expire on Thursday, had been gazetted. The decision to extend the state of national disaster follows consultations and Cabinet approval. The extension takes into account the need to continue augmenting the existing legislation and contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state to mitigate against the impact of the disaster on lives and livelihoods, Dlamini-Zuma added in a statement.
