Speaker of Council, Cllr Nonceba Molwele is hosting a series of virtual public consultations to give residents free rein to determine the substance and character of the City’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
The Council led community-based planning (CBP) outreach sessions are scheduled to run on digital platforms from Tuesday, 9 February to Friday, 5 March 2021, affording residents of Johannesburg a platform to air views about how the City can deal with backlogs in the delivery of municipal services.
“These sessions ensure that people are actively involved in their development. They help the City understand community issues better and to address service delivery backlogs,” says Cllr Molwele.

JOHANNESBURG - The Public Protector has found that one of the factors hampering service delivery in communities is strained relations between traditional authorities and local government.
In a self-initiated investigation, the Chapter 9 institution looked into how the two could be strengthened for the benefit of people at the grassroots level.
The report showed how, with the exception of the Free State and Mpumalanga provinces, there were no established partnerships between traditional authorities and local government.
GIGABA CLEARED
THE Office of the Public Protector has released reports on a number of completed investigations.
Among the nine reports is one detailing investigations into former Home Affairs minister Malusi Gigaba.
Acting public protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka said the office investigated an alleged violation of the Executive Members Ethics Code and the South African Citizenship Act to 88 of 1995 by Gigaba.
She said it was found that Gigaba did not abuse his powers in terms of the South African Citizen Amendment Act of 2010 when he granted certificates of early naturalisation to Ajay Gupta and his family.
Gcaleka said the investigation followed two complaints launched by the DA and the EFF in 2017 and 2018.
