The three hardest-hit provinces in South Africa were Mpumalanga, Limpopo and northern KwaZulu-Natal, Dlamini-Zuma said.

Two children are confirmed to have died - in Limpopo, a five-year-old boy drowned while crossing a river, while a 14-year-old boy died in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mpumalanga Cogta department head Sam Ngubane said two people were possibly missing after being swept away by floodwaters, but this had yet to be confirmed.

Limpopo Cogta MEC Basikopo Makamu added that bridges were washed away, but that the situation was under control. Makamu said uprooted trees had already been cleared, adding that local government officials would visit the area on Wednesday to assess the damage.

PRETORIA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) Tropical storm Eloise which has been affecting South Africa since last weekend has claimed at least two lives, displaced more than 200 others, destroyed infrastructure and left many homeless, said government officials on Tuesday. A five-year-old boy was swept while trying to cross a river but there was heavy current, Sam Ngubane, head of Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) said at a press conference. A total of 60 houses were partly destroyed in Bushbuckridge and another 14 from different parts of the province, he said, adding that two people are still missing and the police are searching for them.

The Avenor Traditional Council led by Togbe Dorglo Anuma Vl, Paramount Chief of Avenor Traditional Area and President of the Avenor Traditional Council has commended President Akufo-Addo for reappointing Dr Archibald Yao Letsa as the Volta regional minister and Mr John Peter Amewu as a minister-designate for Railways Development.

More rain expected in northern KZN

THE MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Sipho Hlomuka, is urging residents living in the northern areas of the province to practise caution as heavy rains continue to fall.
Hlomuka said heavy rains were reported on Sunday in the uMkhanyakude district and in parts of the King Cetshwayo and Zululand districts.
He said disaster management teams had responded to cases arising from the inclement weather conditions. In Jozini, a family had to be evacuated when their home was flooded. In this case, the family requested to be moved to their relatives who reside in a safer part of the area. This incident took place in Ward 6 in eMkhonjeni in the Jozini municipality.
