Covid-19: National state of disaster extended, says Dlamini-Zuma

The national state of disaster on Covid-19 has been extended by another month to 15 May.   Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said the extension, which was to expire on Thursday, had been gazetted. The decision to extend the state of national disaster follows consultations and Cabinet approval. The extension takes into account the need to continue augmenting the existing legislation and contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state to mitigate against the impact of the disaster on lives and livelihoods, Dlamini-Zuma added in a statement.

The handover was done by the KZN Cogta MEC, Sipho Hlomuka, in an effort to capacitate the disaster management response unit in the district. According to Hlomuka, the vehicle would be used for fire and rescue emergencies in uThukela. Hlomuka was accompanied by the mayor of uThukela District, Siphiwe Mazibuko, and the mayor of Alfred Duma Municipality, Vincent Madlala.
