COVID Operations wrapped up its COVID-19 Testing Incentive Program over the weekend with a drawing to select three grand prize winners from students who participated in required asymptomatic testing during spring semester: Haylen Irvine, a psychology major in the College of Arts and Sciences at the Athens campus, is the lucky winner of a MacBook Pro. Samantha Loy, a nursing student on OHIO’s Zanesville campus, and Patrick Togher, a finance major in the College of Business at the Athens campus, each won an iPad mini. The incentive program also included a residence hall competition, which ended with Perkins Hall beating out all other residence halls for the best overall testing compliance among residents. Perkins residents tested at a median rate of 87 percent from Feb. 1 to April 2. They used their $500 prize to purchase OHIO knit hats, which were distributed to residents prior to departure for the summer.

Graduates were welcomed to participate in person at Peden Stadium or virtually. This weekend was extra special, as it marked the first time a commencement ceremony was ever held in Peden Stadium. Our Graduate commencement ceremony was held on Friday at 9 a.m. to honor both master’s and doctoral degrees. The speaker for this ceremony was Dr. Susan Williams, a professor of anatomy in OHIO’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine who was named the 2020 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award winner.

Approximately 5,344 students are expected to participate in Ohio University’s Spring Commencement ceremonies starting Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2, at Peden Stadium and virtually.  The graduate commencement ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, April 30, for both master’s and doctoral degrees. Undergraduate ceremonies will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 4 p.m. Saturday, May 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2.  All commencement ceremonies will take place rain or shine in Peden Stadium and are expected to last two and half hours each.
