Neutralising antibodies are able to successfully bind to a virus, reducing its ability to infect other cells. David Khoury at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and colleagues analysed data from seven covid-19 vaccine studies and one study of people who had been infected with the coronavirus and recovered. Using data on immune responses and observed protection from symptomatic coronavirus infection, the researchers modelled the relationship between neutralising antibody levels and protection from disease.
