KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 The government is working to reduce tax leakages as one of the strategies to improve tax administration in the country, the Dewan Negara was told today.
Deputy Finance Minister II Mohd Shahar Abdullah said improvements would be made through data management and data integration strategies with relevant agencies.
“Among other strategies are to reduce the under-reporting and declaring, expanding government’s revenue base and harnessing the potential of the informal sector,” he said when winding up the debate on the Finance Bill 2020.

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 23 The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is investigating a local company believed to have been involved in the meat cartel scandal under two trade description offences.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the company was being investigated under Paragraph 8 of the Trade Description (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011 and Section 5 of the Trade Description Act 2011.

KUCHING, Dec 20 The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today said a misunderstanding led to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen being ordered to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon his arrival at Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The SDMC secretariat clarified that Chong had applied to be exempted from quarantine on December 18 upon his arrival in the state.

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 18 The state government plans to set up a one-stop centre to attract more domestic and international investors to Sabah and boost the local economy.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the proposal had been submitted and discussed with Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor.
He is optimistic that the one-stop centre would minimise red tape for potential investors.
