ON THE eve of the foundation day of the Congress, former party president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday left for abroad on a short personal visit. The party said he will be away for a few days, indicating that he will most probably ring in the New Year in a foreign location.

Bhim Army to contest UP panchayat polls

Azamgarh (UP), Dec 23 : After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), now the Bhim Army has announced that it will field candidates in the 2021 panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad said that he decided to contest the panchayat elections as “atrocities on Dalits were increasing in rural areas” of the state.
He also accused the Yogi Adityanath government of “settling scores with the opposition” by targeting their supporters and expressed concern over law and order in UP.
The panchayat elections are likely to be held in March-April 2021. The term of present panchayats will expire this month.

New Delhi: Congress’ interim president Sonia Gandhi will on Saturday meet senior leaders to formulate the party’s next strategy on the political scenario at present amid the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s agriculture laws, and also deliberate on the Congress’ poor performances in the recent state elections and bypolls. The meeting is supposed to last 10 days.
According to sources, the meeting might also see Gandhi trying to reconcile with senior ‘rebel’ leaders in the party who wrote a letter calling for organizational changes and flagging a leadership drift.
