PETALING JAYA: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Wong Kah Woh has taken issue with a statement by Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan over the PAC s continuing role during the current Emergency.
“Either YB Takiyuddin Hassan was wrong, or he did not take into account the impact of the declaration of Emergency on the PAC as well as other Parliamentary Select Committees (PSC).
“The PAC and PSC have been directed and informed by the Speaker of the House that no proceedings or meetings may be held during the period the sittings of the House of Representatives and the Senate are suspended, ” he said in a statement on Monday (April 26).

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) proceedings have been suspended during the Emergency as per the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s instructions, said PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh today.
Wong, who is also the Ipoh Timur MP, slammed the statement released by de facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan today, in which he said there should be no doubt or suspicion of abuse of power by the government as the system was “functioning as usual”, including PAC.
The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr George Boakye, has said the Integrated Recycling and Composting Plant (IRECOP) being constructed in the region by Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) will provide enough fertiliser for the region.
He said the siting of the project in the region, being a food basket of the country, would make it a hub of fertiliser production and by extension massive food production.
The regional minister made the statement last Friday at Goaso in the Ahafo Region when the Parliamentary Select Committees on Local Government, Science, Environment and Technology, Finance and Works and Housing, who were on a working visit to inspect works on the IRECOP project, paid a courtesy call on him at the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC).

A former minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Inusah Fuseini, says although mining contributes to the development of the country, it must not be done to the detriment of the environment.
According to him, unregulated small-scale mining destroyed the environment, polluted water bodies and posed health challenges to the people in areas they were done. Past governments have attempted to deal with small-scale mining, all with little success; the recent one was the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Small-Scale Mining, he said.
Mr. Fuseini said this when he chaired the first plenary session of the just-ended National Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
