Ministry of Home Affairs  |  Photo Credit: IANS New Delhi: The central government on Tuesday told the Lok Sabha said that the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, would take more time as the rules are under preparation. The Government also informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs that it has not taken any decision on the roll-out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the entire nation. The CAA Act, 2019 was notified on December 12, 2019 and has come into force w.e.f. January 10, 2020. The Rules under Act are under preparation. The Committees on Subordinate Legislation, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have granted an extension of time up to April 9, 2021 and August 9, 2021 respectively to frame these rules under the CAA Act, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanan

New Delhi: The Centre has not taken any decision on the roll-out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the whole country, the Ministry of Home Affairs has told a parliamentary panel. It has been clarified at various levels in government time and again that till now no decision has been taken to create National Register of Indian citizen, the ministry told the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs headed by Congress leader Anand Sharma, according to a report tabled in Parliament on Tuesday.
