Criminal Court issues 15-day remand for 3 arrested over terror attack

The Criminal Court on Sunday remanded three suspects arrested in connection to the terror attack against former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, for a period of 15 days.
Police made the first two, Mujaz Ahmed, 21 and Thahmeen Ahmed 32, in connection to the attack on May 8. The third person, Adhuham Rasheed, 26 was arrested on May 9.
The Criminal Court came to this decision on the basis that all three posed danger to the public if they remain loose.

Maldives was rocked by an act of terrorism. On May 6, Maldives’ first democratically elected president and current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed was injured in a blast near his home. Home Minister Imran Abdulla told a local television that Nasheed’s injuries were not life-threatening and that the government will get the assistance of foreign agencies in the investigations. On May 7, the Maldives police said that an explosion that wounded former President Mohamed Nasheed and four others including a British national was an act of terrorism and they are attempting to identify four possible suspects. Australian police said they are ready to assist the investigation. Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed said police are treating the blast as an act of terrorism against the former president. Male, May 9 : Two suspects have been arrested by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) in investigations into a terrorist attack last week that injured former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, state media reported.
State-owned PSM News reported on Saturday that 21-year-old Mujaz Ahmed and 32-year-old Thahumeen Ahmed were arrested in connection to an attack that took place outside Nasheed s residence in Male on May 6, reports Xinhua news agency.
Nasheed was admitted to the ADK Hospital, where he underwent multiple life-saving surgeries.
