ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal has sought acquittal in the Narowal Sports Complex (NSC) reference on the basis of the judgement that exonerated Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan in Nandipur corruption case.
Counsel for Mr Iqbal, Zulfiqar Abbasi Naqvi, on Wednesday argued before the accountability court that Islamabad High Court (IHC) had recently issued a detailed judgement in Nandipur Power Project reference.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on March 18, 2018 had filed the reference against Babar Awan, former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, ex-law secretaries retired Justice Riaz Kiani, Masood Chishti and others for delaying the project which led to its price escalation.

ISLAMABAD: The much-anticipated government-opposition talks, scheduled for Monday, could not take place as the opposition seemed not interested in sitting with the treasury members to sort out issues.
A three-member government delegation, which had met the opposition leaders on Friday, seeking better relations at least in the parliament, were to hold another round of talks with opposition parties on Monday.
However, following the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party’s meeting in the Parliament House, which was also addressed by party’s vice president Maryam Nawaz, the opposition dropped the idea of holding the meeting.

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Friday rejected the formation of a government’s inquiry committee to probe the Broadsheet saga and appointment of Justice (R) Azmat Saeed as its head.
Talking to the media outside Parliament, PPP Secretary-General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari said the committee was an eye wash to divert the people’s attention from real issues and get desired results. An independent inquiry under Prime Minister Imran Khan is not possible. The investigation is only being conducted to divert the public attention from the issue while the purpose of appointing Justice (R) Azmat Saeed is to blame the opposition and former leaders for it,” he added.
